Communication Helps Lose Weight

The researchers from Ohio State University have come to the conclusion that frequent communication with many friends helps to lose weight better than a training at the fitness club.

The fact is that communication increases the concentration of brown fat in the body; it burns calories in exchange for the production of heat.
According to the scientists, it is white fat that makes us gain weight. During this process of stimulating, white fat turns into brown fat. Typically, this transformation of fat takes a lot of efforts: the person needs to spend much time in cold conditions or expose the nervous system to the process of activation. Thus, you can communicate with your friends for the sake of your health, and the more you do it, the more useful it is to your health!

Why Do People Overeat?

The scientists from the University of Southern California have established that people overeat, even if the dish seems tasteless to them.

The specialists have conducted a test aimed at showing what makes people overeat. They gave the people, who were going to see a movie in the cinema, a bucket of freshly cooked popcorn or a bucket of popcorn prepared a week before. The people, who usually do not eat popcorn in the cinema, would eat less of the old popcorn because of its bad taste.
But those, who used to take popcorn during all the sessions, ate the same amount of fresh and old popcorn. So, the taste does not play a key role and the whole thing is in a habit. This discovery may shed light on why some people eat even when they are not hungry.
The head of the research, David Neal, says that when we regularly eat certain foods in a particular environment, our brain associates the food with the environment. Therefore, if the conditions remain the same, we will continue eating.
To test this theory, popcorn was given to the control group, which had to watch videos in the conference hall. Here, the taste came to the foreground even among the fans of popcorn.
In addition, when the volunteers ate the popcorn with the other hand (right-handed people used their left hand, and left-handed people would eat with their right hand), they ate less popcorn.

Yoga Doesn’t Help Lose Weight

The trainer of many celebrities, Matt Roberts, has made a statement that yoga does not affect the weight and beauty of the figure.

Many people do yoga instead of sweating in a sports gym, but in reality it does not bring the expected result. John Brewer from the University of Bedfordshire confirms that the practice of yoga will never lead to the desired weight loss. So people should not believe the stars who claim the opposite.
The University of Wisconsin has initiated testing the efficiency of yoga in terms of fitness. To do this, the researchers created a group of 34 women, leading a sedentary lifestyle. They had to do yoga 3 times per week, 55 minutes each time, during the period of two months. It turned out that yoga could not change the figure or affect the weight.
The scientists have estimated that strength training (hatha yoga), which is supposed to replace aerobic exercises, allows to burn the total of 237 calories during 55 minutes. For instance, mowing the lawn burns 250 calories an hour.

Hairstyle Prevents Women from Weight Loss

The study conducted by the surgeon Regina Benjamin has shown that women ignore the gym if they have a nice hairstyle.

The doctor’s mother, a hairdresser by occupation, inspired the research. She says that many women refuse to train, fearing to spoil the hairdo. This is one of the most common excuses often invented by the women who try to justify themselves for extra weight.
The study was focused on the ladies of Afro-American descent, who find it more difficult to arrange their curly locks into a certain hairstyle. It turns out that these women happen to have one of the highest rates of overweight problems – a half of Afro-American women exceed the traditional weight norm.
The main advice here is to attend fitness classes in the evening if the hairstyle is so dear to you that it can make you miss a visit to the gym. In the morning, after waking up, you will anyway have to re-do your hair.

Vegetarian Diet Lowers Cholesterol Level

The researchers from the University of Toronto have discovered that cholesterol can be lowered with the help of a diet based on plants and grains. This approach was tested on a group of 400 volunteers with high cholesterol.

They were divided into 3 groups. The first one had a diet with a low level of saturated fat. But the second and the third groups tested two versions of vegetable diet. In total, the volunteers were on a diet during a period of 6 months.
After this, the people from the first group had a reduction in the level of low density lipoproteins, or “bad cholesterol”, an average of 8 milligrams per deciliter. But the second and the third groups had a decline of cholesterol at the level of 24 and 26 milligrams per deciliter respectively. Moreover, at the beginning of the study the level was usually about 170 milligrams per deciliter, whereas exceeding the level of 160 milligrams was considered high.
The diet was plant-based and included natural fats in the form of nuts, seeds and whole grains. Due to the plants, the diet contained practically no cholesterol. The scientists add that in order to achieve the results one needs to adhere to the vegetarian diet without any indulgences.

Interior Contributes to Excess Weight Gain

Bryan Wansink, Professor in the field of nutrition, from Cornell University in New York, claims that the amount of consumed foods is influenced by the fact where we store food.

People eat the foods that immediately come to their attention three times more often. That is, if you look at the useful salad, it will be your choice for lunch. And if its ingredients are hidden away in the refrigerator, it is unlikely to happen.
The research team has photographed 100 kitchen cabinets and asked the volunteers to keep a food diary. Then another 100 people were invited, and the things in their kitchen cabinets were misarranged. It turned out that the food they saw first was often mentioned in the diaries.
The scientists believe that if crackers or cookies are in the foreground, a person involuntarily selects them. According to the experts, it is better to reject open shelves and have the kitchen cabinets that do not make people constantly look at food. This is especially true of express products that are good for snacks. And a small refrigerator and a plate of a small size with help to cope with overeating – they can reduce the amount of food consumed by 22%.

Top 5 Weight Loss Methods That Work

Losing weight is one of the most sought after topics as people desperately try and find fantastic diets and weight loss methods that will take off the pounds. Whilst there are an enormous number of diets and methods which really won’t have long lasting effects and are extremely difficult to keep too, some top fat loss processes do exist to allow you to lose weight. There are many factors in determining how much weight you’ll lose, and it really is down to personal preference in which method will work best for your circumstances. But, with a good start and the determination to carry on, weight loss methods can really work.

1. Exercise and Training

This may sound rather obvious, but actually doing exercise and training is a top way of reducing your weight. You can tailor it to your needs so that you can fit it into every day life. Exercise doesn’t mean that you need to be at the gym for an hour a day, every day with no rest bite. Whilst of course, cardio vascular and gym workouts will help you lose the weight faster, even walking more will help. Don’t take the car to the local shops, get off at a bus stop earlier than you normally do, and use the stairs at work rather than the lift, and you’ll soon start to see weight loss.

2. Eat Less Calories

Eating is one of the primary reasons that you may see your weight increase, and simply changing your diet can have significant effects on your weight loss. Especially when combined with regular exercise, you’ll start to notice effects of eating less very quickly. You should never starve yourself as this is actually harmful, but instead of eating fatty and high carbohydrate foods, change to healthier options. Start to prepare your work lunches at home so that you can ensure yourself a nutritious and healthy lunch instead of heading to the canteen and eating fatty foods. And don’t completely give up treats as you’ll end up craving them even more and often having a guilty gorge.

3. Surgery

Having surgery is an extreme option for weight loss, but having a gastric band fitted can have huge benefits it you’re the right candidate. This band limits the amount of food you can eat and therefore reduces your hunger levels, allowing you to drop weight in very short periods of time. Liposuction can also help remove fatty layers of tissue that you can’t get rid of no matter how much you diet or visit the gym.

4. Medicines

Weight gain can sometimes be down to medical reasons, and there are some individuals who have metabolisms which make losing weight extremely difficult. Never self medicate, but if you’re having difficulties losing the pounds at the gym and through dieting, consider visiting medical specialists to see if food suppression tablets or weight loss capsules would be of benefit.

5. Hypnosis

This may seem rather too much of an alternative treatment for you, but hypnosis can really help. If you eat to comfort yourself and find that constant snacking has taken over your life, hypnotists can help change this idea, allowing you to become healthier and seek a better diet than one filled with fat and carbohydrates.

How to Lose Weight Spending Just 20 Minutes a Day?

Thanks to a big number of celebrities, we have been obsessed with an idea that the more intense the exercise is, the better the results of the fight against obesity will be. Still, do not rush to follow! It turns out that we do not need to do a lot of things to lose weight.

By the way, not all celebrities insist on the exercises for an hour or an hour and a half each day. For example, Jennifer Aniston says that she attends a 22-minute session of cardio-exercises every day. And the supermodel Helena Christensen says that 20 minutes of cardio-exercises is enough for her to keep fit.
The scientists confirm that a 20-minute cardio session is more effective than a 40-minute session of exercises at a slower pace.
The point is that the 20-minute exercise should be fairly intensive, with sweating and rapid breathing (running, cycling, etc.). In this case, we can speak about their better efficiency if compared with a 40-45-minute session of yoga, strength training equipment, or dance and aerobics.
However, it is necessary to warn against trying to immediately maintain an intensive tempo. One should increase the intensity gradually. Do not start with a sprint right away, since it is dangerous to health. One should not ignore the warming-up either.
So, it is ideal to have five 20-minute sessions of exercises a week including cardio-load: running, walking, and cycling.

Excess Weight Gain Gene Doesn’t Mean Obesity

Nutritionists and physicians have repeatedly told us that the tendency to gain weight is incorporated in many of us from birth. The DNA carries this information, and it seems like nothing can be done about it. However, the experts have found that we are not slaves to our genes, when it comes to excess weight.

Unfortunately, the women, who are prone to be overweight due to genes, refuse to fight obesity, supposing that they are powerless against their weight. Good physical activity helps to melt even a very large amount of fat, and even in those, who have inherited the notorious “excess weight gain gene“.
The scientists at Cambridge University studied 220 000 people from around the world and came to the reassuring conclusion. Those, who do not deprive themselves of good physical activity, significantly reduce the effect of the excess weight gain gene.
The chances of getting obese, if you are genetically prone to obesity and do not move, rise to 69%, if compared with those, who have these genes and go on with physical activity.

Protein Helps Stop Snacking

A group of the scientists, who had been working under the guidance of Alison Grosby, came to the conclusion that the people, who suffer from bouts of hunger, might lack protein in their diet.

Eating more meat, fish, eggs, and nuts you can control your weight and cope with the habit of snacking more easily.
The researchers from Cambridge University and the University of Sydney examined 22 volunteers. All the people had normal weight. They were offered to eat seemingly the same products. Meanwhile, the products had different levels of protein. In particular, the volunteers were given a muffin for breakfast, grilled tuna with salad for lunch, and pasta or spaghetti with a dessert – for dinner. The people, whose diet included 10% of proteins, consumed 260 calories a day more than the people, who received 15% of the protein from their diet. So, the people from the first group not only ate more, but obtained 70% of the extra calories from snacks. However, increasing the percentage of protein up to 25% did not help to cope with overeating.
At the same time, the volunteers had to answer the questions aimed at evaluating the level of their hunger. The people, who consumed more protein, did not have such an acute feeling of hunger two hours after a meal.
